What’s on our roof?

Roof Racks

We ended up purchasing 2 sets of Malone SteelTop roof racks. Don’t know what we would do without ’em! Being able to extend storage space to the roof is invaluable. Especially if you do a lot of activities while traveling and need a little extra space that won’t mind wet, stinky, muddy gear.

Watercraft Racks

Our racks are the also from Thule. They hold either a kayak or our stand up paddleboard. Our SUP is inflatable, so we often deflate and keep in the roof box. But occasionally (aka-when we’re feeling lazy), we just strap her onto the racks.

Bike Racks

We have one pair of Thule bike racks. We almost always end up taking either our road or mountain bikes on each trip. Frankly, it’s a bit of a challenge to put them on and off the top of the van. Especially if there’s just one of us doing the job. But we like to keep things exciting.

Our Thule roof box is pure gold. An absolute necessity for a small van. We usually stuff ours to max capacity; not sure where we’d keep the skis and climbing ropes–or really any of our more clunky gear–without it!
