To make space for the bike rack, we had to keep the entire front section of the van empty. But we also wanted to have a table in this space for when we go road tripping. So, we installed a flip-up table that can stow away when the bikes are in, but pops up when needed.
All you need for this is a block of wood mounted to a folding shelf bracket. We used just one bracket, along with two left over gas struts from the counter lid.
To prevent the table from rattling, we stuck some foam tape to the edge of the tabletop. When the table is in place, it compresses the foam, and that keeps it firmly in place.
